Our Chair responds to the publication of the English Devolution Bill

Our Chair, Councillor Sir Stephen Houghton, issued a response as the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill was laid in Parliament:

"We welcome the introduction of the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill, and the government’s continued recognition of local government as ‘the foundation of devolution’.

Following the recent announcement of the Fair Funding Review 2.0, pledging a new settlement for local government, the English Devolution Bill represents another positive step from the government to deliver meaningful change across England.   

The knowledge of local leaders is invaluable in delivering meaningful change for communities, and we look forward to working with government further as it aims to redistribute power to local leaders and communities across England."
