SIGOMA Chair responds to UKSPF funding announcement
Posted on May 28, 2024
Cllr Sir Stephen Houghton, Chair of the Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities (SIGOMA) said:
The March 2025 funding cliff edge has meant that there has been significant uncertainty about the future of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. While it is welcome that the scheme will be extended, it is concerning that vital funding will be raided to pay for a different programme. It was already unclear whether UKSPF funding would match previous EU regional development funding, as promised. This announcement will be concerning for deprived areas currently using shared prosperity funding to help vulnerable people into employment, supporting community organisations and reducing regional inequalities.
