SIGOMA responds to the Levelling Up White Paper

While we welcome the ambition shown within the white paper and elements including the increased role described for local leaders and the recognition of the serious health and education inequalities that need to be addressed, without an acknowledgment of the impact of the decade of austerity for local government and a plan for serious and sustained investment in local services, the “levelling up” agenda will struggle to deliver meaningfully for our residents.
